Title: Identifying ecological and social resilience in fire-prone landscapes

Project Proposal Abstract: Through two workshops and a mixed-methods study of recently fire-affected communities, we seek a new definition of resilience that is compatible with the Cohesive Strategys goals of promoting fire-adapted communities and restoring and maintaining landscapes that are resilient to fire. We will quantify the social understanding of resilience, compare and contrast this to working definitions of ecological resilience, and identify measures of resilience which are consistent with the capacity of land managers.
